Signal Point Club • Niles, Michigan
The Golf Course
Designed by Robert B. Harris, ASGCA, the Signal Point golf course opened in 1964. This beautiful course, situated on bluffs next to the St. Joseph River, is one of the best kept secrets in all of Michiana. It is the finest manicured course in the area, with a challenging layout; requiring a variety of shots.
The serenity, peaceful surroundings, and lovely fairways, and greens will bring you back again and again. The course has hosted many great athletes, celebrities, and local leaders throughout its history. And with limited membership, no tee times are needed for you to play at your leisure.
Here are a few highlights of the course:

Hole #2: Par 5 540 yards
This hole requires a tee shot threaded through a tight opening. The fairway bends to the right at 250 yards and then slightly back to the left. A tee shot too far to the right puts you in the trees. To the left side of the fairway, you will have no direct shot to the green.
The perfect tee shot is to the right-center, if you want to have a go at the green on the 2nd shot.
Large bunkers protect both sides of the green and the bunker on the right sits well short of the green. So the choice is yours. Go for it in two, or play three well-placed shots to reach the green safely. |

Hole #6: Par 4 395 Yards
The drive on #6 requires you to avoid the water and the tall maple tree on the left. A straight drive about 220 yards will leave you with a safe approach to the large but steep green.
Or you can take a chance and drive over the pond to the left, leaving you a short approach shot. Either way, keep your approach below the hole to give yourself the uphill putt. For the average golfer, take the two putts and move on. |

|
Hole #8: Par 3 170 Yards
This hole is guarded by a tight tree line on both the left and right. This uphill tee shot usually needs one extra club, but again it is better to leave yourself below the hole.
A large bunker guards the left side of the green. |

|
Hole #16: Par 5 500 Yards
Your 230 to 250 yard tee shot must avoid the grove of trees on the right that stand tall.
To the left are more trees that can block your intended 2nd shot to the corner of this double dog-leg. Hit it straight and you can place your 2nd shot to the opening.
If you are in the perfect spot on the left side of the fairway, you may have a go at the green in two. To make this shot, you must hit it high and aim for the left side of the green. |

"During my 11 year stay at the University of Notre Dame, I was privileged to have the opportunity to become a member of Signal Point. One of the sad things about leaving the University, among many, was the fact that I would never again find a place as unique, accessible and enjoyable as Signal Point. I highly recommend anybody who has a difficult schedule, but loves the game of golf, to become a member at Signal Point. I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as did." - Lou Holtz, Legendary Notre Dame Football Coach and ESPN Analyst.
